College Basketball
Western Kentucky concluded play in the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands with a 69-64 victory over Fordham Monday. Charles Bassey had 24 points and 12 rebounds in the win for the Hilltoppers, now 6-1 on the season. WKU returns to action Friday against second ranked Louisville in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with pregame at 3:30 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Murray State opened play in the Gulf Coast Classic last night with a 75-64 loss to LaSalle. The Racers were down by 15 at halftime and cut the deficit to nine in the second half but could get no closer. Tevin Brown led Murray State with 19 points. The Racers fell to 3-2 and take on Weber State in the consolation bracket at 12:30 this afternoon.

Austin Peay got 25 points from Bowling Green native Terry Taylor in downing South Carolina State 92-66 at the Dunn Center. Taylor also had eight rebounds as the Governors improved to 3-3 and return to action next Tuesday, December 3rd at Arkansas.

17th ranked Tennessee downed Chattanooga 58-46 in the Emerald Coast Classic in Knoxville. Lamonte Turner had 17 points for the Vols as they extended their nation’s best active home winning streak to 30 games. Tennessee returns to action Friday night against Florida State.

Vanderbilt got a 78-70 win over Southeastern Louisiana at Memorial Gym. The 5-1 Commodores were led in scoring by Maxwell Evans 16 points in getting their third straight win. Vandy entertains Tulsa on Saturday night.

Women’s action saw Vanderbilt rout Tennessee State 106-55 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Tonight’s Games: Three women’s games highlight the schedule including 14th ranked Kentucky hosting Grambling with pregame at 5:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP. Other action has 20th ranked Tennessee entertaining Arkansas Pine Bluff and Murray State welcomes former Christian County standout Trinitee Jackson and Arkansas State.

NHL
Daniel Carr-just called up from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League- scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Nashville Predators got by the St. Louis Blues 3-2 at Bridgestone Arena to sweep the home-and-home series. Nick Bonino and Ryan Johansen scored in regulation for Nashville, which has won two in a row after dropping six straight. The Preds host the Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow.

NBA
The Memphis Grizzlies dropped their fourth straight game falling at the Indiana Pacers 126-114 last night. Rookie Ja Morant had a double-double in defeat with 19 points and 10 assists. The Grizzlies are back in action tomorrow night hosting the Los Angeles Clippers.

MLB
The Cincinnati Reds acquired right-hander Justin Shafer from the Blue Jays for cash. The 27-year-old reliever went 2-and-1 with a 3.86 ERA over 34 relief appearances last season for Toronto. Cincinnati also claimed outfielder Nick Martini off waivers from the Padres. He hit .226 with one home run in 32 big league games in 2019 with San Diego and Oakland.

St. Louis Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty is in the running to be on baseball’s inaugural All-MLB Team. The right-hander will go up against the majors’ best for one of five starting pitching spots. He is the Cardinals only nominee and the inaugural All-MLB Team will be announced on December 10th. Flaherty posted an 11-and-8 record with a 2.75 ERA and 231 strikeouts this past season.

Five Atlanta Braves are also candidates for the first All-MLB Team. Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna Jr, Ozzie Albies, Josh Donaldson and Mike Soroka represent the Braves. The Chicago Cubs Willson Contreras, Javier Báez, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, are all also in the mix.

National Headlines
Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes as the Baltimore Ravens crushed the Los Angeles Rams 45-6. Baltimore has won seven in a row to lead the AFC North at 9-and-2. Marcus Peters had an interception against his former team in the win. Jared Goff tossed two picks for LA, which fell to 6-and-5 on the season.
