Construction of the Novelis plant in Guthrie is about a month behind, but they’ve already hired about 70 employees and are looking to hire more.
Todd Fiscal Court approved a $40,000 expenditure for economic development Friday morning to assist Novelis with greater than anticipated electrical permit costs that have totaled over $100,000.
Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield says work continues on the plant and Novelis hopes to have about 125 employees hired in the near future.

In other business, Dispatch Director Tammy Dailey is going forward with plans to replace a faulty server with a new cloud-based system that will allow them to maintain important data in the case of a disaster or fire.
Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says the new digital radios for volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members that fiscal court recently purchased should be shipped any day now.
Jailer Jeff Penick’s monthly report shows 110 state inmates and 20 local inmates currently incarcerated. He notes 48 new cameras are currently being installed in the facility.
Todd County’s natural gas utility board is now complete with nine members, including four from Clarksville. They are Johnny Knuckles, Deanna Power, Eston Glover, Gary Traughber, Jimmy Turner, Mark Riggins, Valerie Guzman, Suzanne Lanford and Troy Jones.
