Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill announced at Thursday’s school board meeting that she will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Board Chair Linda Keller read the letter announcing Gemmill’s retirement, which says it will take effect at the end of the 2019-20 school year. In the letter, Gemmill doesn’t specify her reason for retiring now, but she told the board that she’s been honored to serve these eight years and she hopes that they will continue to search for a way to find funding for facilities.
She says that her work continues in the meantime, and she will support the process of finding a new superintendent in any way she can.
Keller says the search will begin very quickly, as it is a lengthy process.
Gemmill’s current contract technically ends on June 30, 2020, and although she intends to step down at the end of the school year, she says she wanted to give the board ample notice of her decision.
