Report: 42 minor league teams could be gone in 2021 including Lexington Legends

A New York Times article that appeared Sunday indicated 2020 could be the last season for 42 minor league baseball teams. Under a new proposal, Major League Baseball is wanting to eliminate those franchises to overhaul the lower levels of the minor leagues. One of those franchises is the Lexington Legends of the Class A South Atlantic League. The Legends won the 2019 SAL title for the second consecutive year. Lexington is affiliated with the Kansas City Royals. Legends team president Andy Shea is hopeful MLB will reconsider the proposal.
