Black ice from refreezing is concern for Wednesday morning commute

Black ice is the main concern on area roads Wednesday morning as several area schools systems are closed due to Monday night’s snowfall.

Christian, Todd, Trigg, Hopkins and Muhlenberg County schools are closed for the second day in a row. Caldwell, Montgomery and Stewart County schools and Dawson Springs Independent Schools are operating on a two-hour delay.

Road conditions improved significantly yesterday with sunshine assisting the efforts of city, county and state road crews, but temperatures below 15 degrees across the area this morning means there are patches of black ice from refreezing.

Some back roads and side streets have remained slick and hazardous since Monday night and motorists are again urged to slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination.

Area dispatchers reported no weather-related issues during the overnight hours.

It’s also important to be sure outdoor pets have shelter to take refuge from the extreme cold and a source of unfrozen water.
