A Hopkinsville man was arrested for his third DUI and for assault of a police officer Friday night.
An off-duty Christian County sheriff’s deputy observed 54-year old Douglas Wells of Hopkinsville swerving all over the road and running a red light at Lafayette Road and the Bypass, according to an arrest citation.
A traffic stop was initiated near the Stadium of Champions and Wells had to be pulled from his car after refusing to comply with commands to exit.
Police say he continued to struggle and that an officer sustained a cut to her leg that required treatment at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.
The report says Wells smelled of alcohol and showed numerous signs of being under the influence.
He was arrested and charged with his third DUI, his second offense of driving on a DUI suspended license, disregarding a traffic control device, careless driving, third degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and possession of an open alcohol container.
