Man arrested for DUI after hitting power pole

A man was arrested for DUI and other charges after he ran off West Seventh Street and caused a major power outage when he struck a utility pole Thursday afternoon.

An arrest citation for 26-year old John Michael Perrine of Hopkinsville says he was eastbound near Rose Drive when he veered out of his lane, struck a large truck driven by 38-year old Brandon Thomas of Clarksville and then hit a utility pole, breaking it in half.

Perrine said he must have blacked out at the wheel and police say he appeared to be under the influence of a substance.

A search allegedly revealed a metal pipe he admitted to using to smoke spice and loose spice was found in his center console.

Perrine was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain insurance.
