Democrat Andy Beshear has declared victory in the race to be Kentucky’s next governor, while Republican incumbent Matt Bevin has declined to concede.
With all precincts reporting, Bevin trails Beshear by about 5,200 votes—or six one hundredths of a percent.
Beshear called it a victory for educators in Kentucky.
Governor Bevin said he will wish Beshear well if it’s determined he’s the winner, but asserted there are irregularities to investigate.
Bevin could ask for a recanvass where county clerks would recheck the voting totals in their machines. He could then theoretically request a recount, though recanvasses rarely change a vote total by any substantial amount.
Governor Bevin won Christian, Todd and Trigg counties.
