The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville got a visit from officials with Hopkinsville Community College at Tuesday’s meeting and heard about the success of the HOPFAME program.
HOPFAME stands for Hopkinsville Federation of Advanced Manufacturing Education and is focused on getting students the knowledge and practical studies they need to move right into the manufacturing workforce after school. President and CEO Dr. Alissa Young says HOPFAME is a chapter of KYFAME, which was able to happen thanks to community support and local interest.
The program allows for students to attend college courses while being employed at a local manufacturing company the remainder of the week. Instructor Stuart Zieman says it is a consecutive five semester program.
He says the program has been a proven success, and many students are hired full time after completely the courses and some continue to pursue further education.
The program has grown in popularity—it started with only 5 or 6 students and now has close to 30—with Dr. Young they will soon need to look into hiring more instructors. For more information on the program or to apply, like them on Facebook at HOP FAME or call 270 707-3745.
