Local man arrested on fake money, theft charges

Hopkinsville police arrested a man Sunday afternoon on several charges related to counterfeit money.

An arrest citation for 24-year old Jason Godsey of Hopkinsville says he agreed to purchase a PlayStation and two games from a Fort Campbell soldier on Facebook marketplace and then gave the victim 20 counterfeit 10 dollar bills for the items.

The soldier didn’t realize the bills were fake until he got back to Clarksville.

Officers located Godsey later in the day at a home on East 23rd Street and allegedly admitted to the theft and other criminal activity.

A search of the residence allegedly revealed 34 fake 20 dollar bills, three fake 10 dollar bills and a printer that Godsey admitted he used to print the counterfeit cash.

He was also served with a warrant alleging he used fake money to make a purchase at a Dollar General in Henderson County in August.

Godsey is charged with first-degree forgery, two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, two counts of theft by deception and he was served with five warrants for failing to appear in court and one for non-payment of fines.
