A local man sought on a warrant led police on a foot pursuit early Monday morning and allegedly punched an officer in the face as he was taken into custody.
Hopkinsville police observed a vehicle traveling through the parking lot of a closed business about 1:30 a.m. and attempted to make contact with the driver. That’s when 56-year old Richard Wilson of Hopkinsville allegedly fled on foot, but was soon caught.
An arrest citation says Wilson struck an officer in the mouth with a closed fist and the officer’s uniform was torn during the struggle. Search of Wilson’s person allegedly revealed a pouch of methamphetamine, digital scales and rolling papers.
Wilson was charged with third-degree assault, fleeing or evading police, criminal mischief, possession of meth and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
He was also served with an unrelated warrant for contempt of court.
