Local agencies dedicated to the well-being of children in the community recently hosted an art contest to help fight underage drinking and an awards ceremony is coming up Saturday.
The Community Collaboration for Children through PACS and the Christian County Prevention Coalition teamed up to offer an art contest to students in all grades in Christian County to participate in. Sabrina Davis with the effort says the contest is called “I Got Better Things to Do” and was focused on what students have to do that are better than underage drinking.
She says younger children got to color special coloring book pages, but older students got to make whatever art they wanted to show their drive to not drink.
Davis says the awards ceremony will be Saturday at the Western Kentucky Fairground Convention Center starting at 9 a.m. and there will be plenty of resources and other items available there.
Keynote speaker Forest Quillen will present at the event, sharing his personal testimony of growing up in a home with addiction, his own struggles with it and the fight he had to have to achieve recovery. The goal of the event is to remove barriers and encourage family bonding while discouraging kids from underage drinking.
