The motorcyclist who led multiple police agencies on a pursuit that ended with a crash on Madisonville Road in August has been indicted on nine separate charges.
Kentucky State Police brought charges of first-degree wanton endangerment, careless driving, speeding and disregarding a traffic control device against 22-year old Jack Kao of Fort Campbell and the Christian County Sheriff’s Department brought charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief.
A state trooper observed a motorcycle operated by Kao headed northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway at a high rate of speed on August 2 and attempted to make a traffic stop. Kao allegedly failed to yield and accelerated, taking Exit 11 onto the Bypass, where the trooper lost sight of the motorcycle.
Christian County sheriff’s deputies located the motorcycle and the pursuit continued onto several roadways before making its way onto Madisonville Road. Sheriff Tyler DeArmond stopped his police vehicle on Old Madisonville Road in an attempt to bring the pursuit to an end and was pinned between his door and the vehicle when Kao struck the door. Sheriff DeArmond was checked out at the Jennie Stuart Medical Center later in the afternoon for minor injuries.
Kao collided with Deputy Constable Johnny Colon’s car at the end of the pursuit and Colon was also checked out at the hospital. Kao was flown by Air Evac to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for leg injuries.
In other action, the grand jury indicted 22-year William Moore of Hopkinsville for first-degree rape. A warrant alleges that on August 6 of last year, Moore had sexual intercourse with a female victim who was unconscious and incapable of giving consent. The victim immediately reported the assault when she regained consciousness and Hopkinsville police say DNA testing confirmed Moore as the perpetrator.
