Public library to offer area students a ‘student library card’

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and First Financial Bank are teaming up to offer a student library card that will give area students access to the Kentucky Virtual Library.

It will also allow them to use the OverDrive virtual library app and to check out a limited number of resources from the public library. Christian County Public Schools and the library have been working the past year to provide the resource to high school students, according to a news release, in the hope of helping students who may not have the ability to visit the library regularly.

Library access with the student card will enable students to physically check out a limited number of books from the library, utilize the KYVL website with access to over 60 databases and download eBooks, audio books, magazines and movies from the OverDrive app that is accessible from any mobile device.

First Financial Bank District President Betsy Shelton says, “We believe each student should have equal access to the resources needed for a higher quality education, and these student cards are one way to do just that. We’re excited to see how this program will impact students’ education here in Christian County.”

This program will begin at Hopkinsville High School and the plan is for all Christian County Public and private High School students to have a student card available to them in the next several months.
