Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and gubernatorial candidate Attorney General Andy Beshear met in debate Thursday afternoon in Paducah as they both strive to become Kentucky’s next governor.
The debate was aired live by WPSD-TV and occasionally became heated between the Republican incumbent and his Democratic challenger. The moderators focused on economic and governmental issues with the questions and did not ask about social issues.
Bevin says he’s brought hundreds of jobs to Kentucky and that he will continue to speak with world leaders to bring development to the state.
Beshear says he intends to invest it agri-technology and make Kentucky an agricultural powerhouse in the nation.
Speaking on the pension crisis, Bevin says he’s the only governor in recent history to fully fund the retirement system.
Beshear says cities and counties are taking the brunt of the pension woes and that he intends to create new revenue in the state.
Many other topics were discussed, including the War on Asian Carp happening in western Kentucky and what both men would do to address, the drug epidemic, rising prison and jail populations and funding for public schools.
