The Big Read returns to Hopkinsville and Christian County this coming Monday with a kickoff event at the Alhambra Theatre.
Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County Executive Director Alissa Keller appeared on WHOP Thursday and says the festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday and this year’s reading is Our Town by Thornton Wilder.
The first 100 attendees to the event will receive a free copy of the play and Keller says it focuses on the culture of small town, close knit communities and the affect it has on those who live in it.
She says it’s about five weeks of programming and the kickoff will play host to a personalized version of Our Town for people to enjoy.
The Pennyroyal Arts Council was a recipient of a grant of $15,000 to host the Big Read—they are one of 78 nonprofit organizations to receive an NEA Big Read grant. For more information and a schedule of events, like The Big Read-Hopkinsville on Facebook.
