The Distinguished Young Women of Christian County hosts an annual scholarship program for young women who are rising high school seniors. Organization Chair Kaitlynne Bolinger recently appeared on WHOP to spotlight the program and to invite young women to participate.
In the program, participants compete in categories such as talent, fitness, academics, self-expression and an interview. The winner of the local program will receive an academic scholarship and will compete at the state level.
Bolinger says this year’s program competition is set for August 23 at the Alhambra Theater, and so far, 14 young women have registered. Those interested in competing still have time to register and Bolinger says rising seniors in public school, private school or homeschool are eligible to join.
Then, on August 4, Bolinger says they are hosting a meeting for those who are interested in participating and their parents to share more information about the program.
Bolinger says the academic and interview portions of the program take place before the day of the competition. Then at the Alhambra, the participants will show off a talent, their fitness and will answer a question concerning their self-expression.
Each young woman who competes receives an academic scholarship, and Bolinger says the winner will compete in the state program in Lexington.
