Water main break results in downtown road blocks

A water main break in downtown Hopkinsville resulted in multiple road blockages on Saturday.

The Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority reportedly received an alert concerning a water main break near East Ninth Street and South Main Street at around 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning. HWEA crews responded to the area to repair the main break, which led to multiple intersection blockages in the downtown area.

After 9 a.m., the repairs were completed, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that South Main Street from 9th Street to 10th Street will remain closed “through the first of the week” due to damages caused by the repairs. Following the repairs, HWEA issued a boil water advisory for 904, 905, 909, 910, 911, 912, 1004, 1011 and 1100 South Main Street. Water should be boiled for three minutes before use.
