Hoppers, Henderson split late season doubleheader

The Hoptown Hoppers and Henderson Flash squared off in a doubleheader Wednesday night at Tiger Field.

The Hoppers grabbed the first game 7-5, but Henderson flexed its offensive muscle and got a two-hitter to blow out Hoptown 11-0 in the nightcap.

The Flash remain a game-and-a-half in front of the Hoppers for first place in the Ohio Valley League standings with only two games remaining.

In the first game, Jordan Akins drove in four runs and blasted a 3-run home run to lead the Hoppers. Myles Denton drove in two runs with a double.

Reed Hayes’diving catch in right field in the sixth inning helped preserve the win.

Tristan Seputis earned the pitching win going five innings and striking out six while only walking one.

In the nightcap, the Flash (25-10) pounded Hoptown pitching for 13 hits. Meanwhile, Henderson’s Kiefer Parsons and Luke Parr teamed to toss a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to dominate the Hoppers’ hitters.

The Hoppers (23-10) will travel to Fulton to take on the Railroaders Friday night before returning to Tiger Field Saturday night in the regular season finale against Madisonville. First pitch Saturday is set for 6:30 p.m. with airtime at 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
