Calling all “westsiders”—it’s time for the West Side Reunion, which is set to take over Casey Jones Distillery on August 1.
And there was a small version of that reunion at WHOP Radio Tuesday morning, as organizers John Atkins, Chuck Chambers and Steve Tribble talked about what they have planned for the reunion that starts at 4 p.m. August 1. All three are proud to be from the west side and to have attended West Side School while it still stood over by Second Baptist Church in Hopkinsville.
Atkins says there will be live music, plenty to eat and more than a few memories and laughs to be shared.
He says you don’t have to have been a west sider to attend or have attended West Side School specifically. Tribble says he attended several schools in his time and he’s still welcome at the party.
Atkins and Chambers encouraged folks to bring any memorabilia or items from their school days, with Atkins saying he still has his hall monitor belt.
Parts of West Side Elementary School are still around near Second Baptist Church—it served elementary school students in Hopkinsville from 1905 until 1972. Second Baptist Church purchased the property not long after it closed, and turned the auditorium into their Activities Building, meaning that youth and families are still flourishing and learning inside the walls of the one-time school.
There’s been some debate about where exactly the ‘west side’ began and ended in Hopkinsville, so to be safe, the three say you might as well just come and have fun.
