Major Jason Swain has begun his duties as the new corps officer of the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, and on Wednesday, he met with residents to get to know the community he is serving.
Swain assumed leadership on June 22 and came to Hopkinsville from Ashland, where he led the North Kentucky Salvation Army Corps. Swain says he has served as an officer with the Salvation Army for the past 28 years and has been a member of the nonprofit for over 40 years.
Swain was born and raised in Weirton, West Virginia, and was working in construction before he became a Salvation Army Officer. He ended up getting a job with the Salvation Army concerning construction and property projects. Swain says he eventually felt called to attend training so that he could join the nonprofit as an officer.
Swain says he has a decent amount of learning ahead of him and has plans to meet with community partners and his advisory board. Although Swain has only been in town for around a week, he says Hopkinsville is a nice community and is working on finding his way around.
The prior Corps Officers of the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, Brittney and David Donegan, left their positions on June 21 to serve as the leading officers of the Anderson Salvation Army Corps in Anderson, South Carolina.
