Local KFB to host free member day at the Western Kentucky State Fair

The Western Kentucky State Fair opens to the public on Friday, and on July 2, Kentucky Farm Bureau members in Christian County will have free admission.

On that day, the fair opens at 4:30 p.m. and Barry Cornelius from the local bureau says farm bureau members and their families can enter for free until 6 p.m. Members must pick up an admission card from the agency’s south office at 250 Burley Ave or the central office at 2405 Fort Campbell Blvd.

Along with free entry, Cornelius says they will be hosting a bureau meeting at the Convention Center at 6:15 p.m. and before the meeting starts the 109 Band will be playing some live music. During the meeting, Cornelius says they will recognize their academic scholarship recipients, and the winner of the outstanding youth contest will give a speech.

Then at 7p.m., Cornelius says they plan to have an antique tractor parade traveling around the fair.

The local bureau will also have a food booth at the fair this year, and the revenue generated will go to the scholarship fund. Cornelius says he hopes those funds can allow them to give out more scholarships in the future.

Cornelius also shared that the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Mobile Science Activity Center will be at the fair on July 2. The center has activities such as making biodegradable corn plastic, ice cream in bag and soy lip balm. The fair’s full schedule is available at westernkentuckystatefair.org.
