Benefit for the Bend brings large crowd, awards presented

Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center and the Pennyrile Resource Conservation and Development Area Council was host to their annual Benefit for the Bend this past weekend, and it was a full house at the Christian County Ag. Extension Office.

Benefit for the Bend began in 2008 in an effort to raise funds to support the many programs hosted at Jeffers’ Bend, along with maintaining the facilities and the grounds of the environmental center. There was a silent auction, plenty of food including grilled pork chops, baked potatoes, salad and numerous desserts to choose from. The hope was the raise $30,000 to benefit Jeffers’ Bend.

Several awards were handed out at the event, including the D. T. Porter/RC&D Person the Year Award, which was presented to Terry Sanders of Christian County. Two Community Service Awards were handed out, which went to Kenneth Whitford of Hopkinsville and the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority. Arnold and Ruth Lynch were the recipients of the Special Project Award and the Chairman’s Award was presented to Marilyn Dill of Hopkinsville.
