Fiscal Court approves animal receiving fees for Animal Shelter, new residential trash service

It was a busy meeting for Christian Fiscal Court, as they approved a new residential trash pick up service for county residents and approved receiving fees for the Christian County Animal Shelter.

Christian County Judge-Executive highlighted what those fees will be for those who are looking to surrender their pets into the care of the animal shelter. These fees do not apply to stray animals, only to those being owner-released. It would be $50 to surrender an adult dog, though it could be lowered down to $25 if you have veterinary documents—it’s $25 to surrender an adult cat, $50 for a litter of puppies and $50 for a litter of kittens.

Magistrate Josh Turner says most animal shelters of this size have receiving fees, and the hope is it will help balance the cost of medicine and care for the animals.

In her monthly report, Director Sherry Viall says the regional animal shelter took in 257 animals in the month of April.

Following a unanimous vote by magistrates, Christian County will have a new residential trash collection service in Impact Waste Services, parting ways with GFL. This new service will begin July 1, which does mean that current GFL customers will need to start new accounts with Impact Waste by that time, making sure your accounts are settled with GFL first.

Officials with Impact Waste say they’ll be releasing more information in the coming days about how to sign up, but you can do so on their website or by calling 270-660-8331.

They’re not sure at this time what the routes will shake out to look like, but your trash pick-up days could change while they get the most efficient ways mapped out.

This does not affect Hopkinsville Solid Waste customers in the City of Hopkinsville, just those who live in the county limits—Oak Grove has also entered into a contract with Impact Waste Services. Starting residential pick up fees would be $12.41 monthly, and increase slightly each following year, ending at $13.97 in 2030, with an additional bin costing around $4 monthly.
