FCHS ends HHS softball program with district tourney win

The District 8 Softball Tournament got underway Sunday afternoon at Christian County High School. 

Fort Campbell defeated Hopkinsville 22-12 in six innings to advance to Tuesday night’s championship game against Christian County. The loss ended the program for the Lady Tigers, who finished their last season at 1-13.  

Hoptown took a 10-3 lead after the first inning. The Lady Tigers took advantage of five walks and eight hit batters to go along with error. Hopkinsville sent 16 batters to the plate in their first at-bat. 

Fort Campbell cut the lead to 10-5 after two innings and narrowed the gap to 10-8 after three. 

A four-run top of the fourth inning sent the Lady Falcons to a 12-10 lead. Fort Campbell used a pair of hits, two walks and an error to plate the go-ahead runs. 

Hoptown tied the game at 12-12 in the bottom of the fourth. Zariona Bussell was hit by a pitch to lead off and Ellie Alaniz walked. Zoe Thomas reached on an error by the pitcher to load the bases. With two out, Amelia Lockhart and Bailey Ladson walked to force home runs. 

Fort Campbell broke the tie with a run in the top of the fifth as SkyLynne Crandell walked. Grace Haler and Makayla Galvez hit back-to-back singles.  

Fort Campbell put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth using seven singles and three Lady Tigers’ errors to score nine runs. 

The Lady Falcons (5-12) will take on the Lady Colonels (18-12-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Both teams advance to the Region 2 tournament next week at Lyon County.
