Grants for hazardous waste clean-up, crumb rubber surfacing come to the Pennyrile

Several Pennyrile counties are set to receive state funding to help support cleaner communities, recycling efforts and improve household hazardous waste collection.

According to the Pennyrile Area Development District, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet recently announced several grant awards through the Division of Waste Management. For household hazardous waste management, Christian Fiscal Court received $15,000, Todd County Fiscal Court received $7,375, Trigg County Fiscal Court received just over $15,000 and Lyon County is stabbed to get $27,315.

A recycling grant in the amount of $25,856 went to Hopkins County Fiscal Court and Muhlenberg County School District will get $53,800.

Crumb Rubber grants were awarded to several communities, including nearly $47,000 to the City of Princeton’s City-County Park, $16,400 for Lee S. Jones Park in Lyon County, $63,450 to Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court for Clay Jones Memorial Park and $3,356 to Trigg County Fiscal Court for the Trigg County Convention Center and Recreation Complex.

Crumb rubber is a material produced by recycling scrap automobile and truck tires, reducing them to usable material for artificial turf or asphalt.
