A person was killed in a fiery, single-vehicle crash in Hopkins County Wednesday and the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the victim.
According to a news release, deputies responded to the 2500 block of Grapevine Road in Madisonville, along Grapevine Cemetery. Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle that was being consumed by an active fire, and once the blaze was extinguished, it was determined there was a single occupant, the driver, still inside.
Investigation determined that the vehicle had been heading east on Grapevine Road when it left the roadway and entered the area of the cemetery. That’s where is struck a tree head-on and caught fire. The driver was killed in the incident.
Officials are working to identify the victim—the vehicle had Indiana registration plates and the investigation remains ongoing.
