Christian County High School volleyball player Kaidence Atwell saw her dreams come true on Monday afternoon.
The senior volleyball player signed a letter-of-intent to play college volleyball at Trevecca Nazarene during a ceremony at the high school media center in front of family, friends, and teammates.
For Atwell, it was a moment she wasn’t sure would happen two years ago when her high school coach, Samantha Self, asked her to switch from outside hitter to middle hitter.
Self said Atwell wasn’t happy at first about the move but adapted to the role.
Atwell said once she decided to move to the middle, she began to get opportunities that eventually led to her signing with Trevecca Nazarene.
Atwell was a four-year starter for the Lady Colonels and finished her career with 548 kills, 114 blocks, 184 digs and had nearly 100 aces in the last two seasons. During her senior year, she led the Lady Colonels to the District 8 championship and finished her her final season with 279 kills, 51 blocks, 10 assists, and 48 aces despite battling injuries.
Self said Trevecca is getting a hard worker who will be extremely coachable.
Atwell said she chose Trevecca Nazarene for several reasons, including playing with former Lady Colonels teammate Skylar Kirby, who will be a sophomore for the Trojans.
Atwell chose Trevecca Nazarene over Midway and Hanover. She said she plans on studying nursing.
