Community mourns the passing of local animal shelter employee Vickie Shelton

The community is mourning the recent passing of Vickie Shelton, who was a key member of the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter for over the past decade.

Shelton, an Elkton resident, passed away over the weekend at the age of 66. Shelton worked at the shelter for the past 14 years, and shelter members spotlighted her life and legacy in Facebook post on Monday.

The shelter shared that Shelton’s work was never just a job; it was a calling, and that her patience, warmth and unwavering commitment to the well-being of every animal she encountered left a lasting impact on the shelter and the community.

Shelton’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with burial to follow at Cox Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those who want to honor Shelton’s memory are asked to make donations to the shelter’s Get Em’ Done Program which helps get the shelter animals spayed and neutered. Donations can be mailed to 216 West 7th Street Suite A.
