Girls’, Boys’ Region 2 Basketball Tournament pairings set

The Region 2 Basketball Tournament pairings, times, and dates have been set after the drawing meeting Saturday morning.

The Girls’ Region 2 Tournament will begin Monday night at Hopkins County Central with Crittenden County (24-5) playing Webster County (12-18) at 6 p.m. The second game will begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature Christian County (14-9) against Caldwell County (14-12).

The Lady Colonels defeated the Lady Tigers 57-52 in Princeton on Feb. 6.

On Tuesday night, Hopkins County Central (19-11) will play Hopkinsville (2-18) in the first game at 6 p.m., followed by Henderson County (21-9) against Lyon County (25-7) at 7:30 p.m.

Hopkins Central defeated Hopkinsville 74-25 in their only meeting this season.

The semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday night with the championship game to be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7.

Henderson County is the favorite to win the girls’ tournament and is seeking its eighth straight region crown. Crittenden County, the District 5 champion and last year’s region runner-up, District 5 runner-up Lyon County, District 8 champion Christian County, and District 7 champion Hopkins County Central are among the contenders.

The Boys’ Region 2 Tournament will get underway Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.

The opening game will feature Henderson County (24-4) against Christian County (13-13). The second game, which will begin about 20 minutes after the first game concludes, will have Hopkins County Central (17-9) playing Livingston Central (13-15).

Christian County lost to Henderson County 71-26 in their only meeting this season at Henderson.

On Thursday night, the 6 p.m. game will feature Lyon County (26-6) against Union County (18-12) and will be followed about 20 minutes after the completion of the first game by Hopkinsville (17-13) against Madisonville (6-22).

The Tigers beat the Maroons 85-56 in their only meeting in early January in Tiger Gym.

The semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9 with the finals to be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.

District 6 winner Henderson County, the defending region champion, and District 5 champion Lyon County are heavy favorites to win this year’s tournament. District 8 winner Hopkinsville and District 7 winner Hopkins County Central also are in the mix.
