Murray State University’s Fort Campbell Regional Campus has gained official approval for its Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B) program to operate as a U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge pathway, opening new doors for service members preparing to transition into civilian careers.
The federal SkillBridge program enables eligible active-duty personnel to complete civilian job training, apprenticeships or internships during their final months of service, while still receiving military pay and benefits. With this new approval, Murray State’s Fort Campbell campus has become a training hub for those pursuing high-demand careers in emergency medical services.
Shannon Slate, director of Murray State University’s Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell Regional Campuses, says the approval represents an important step in strengthening the pathway from military service to civilian careers. She believes that emergency medical services are a natural transition for many service members and this partnership allows them to build industry-recognized credentials while still being active duty.
The EMT-B program equips students with essential medical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to emergencies, deliver patient care and work toward state licensure. Graduates are prepared to enter the field immediately as EMTs or advance into other healthcare programs.
By earning a SkillBridge designation, the Fort Campbell campus deepens its support for military-affiliated students and strengthens workforce development in the region. The program aligns academic training with employer needs, ensuring service members are career-ready the moment they transition out of uniform.
