Late run sends Lady Colonels past Caldwell County

Caldwell County celebrated Senior Night Friday night and they had plans of pulling off an upset of the Christian County Lady Colonels as the icing on the cake.

Fortunately for the Lady Colonels, Carliah Hobson didn’t follow the script.

The junior scored five points in a late 10-0 run for Christian County, who knocked off the upset-minded Lady Tigers 57-52 in a girls’ high school basketball game.

Caldwell had rallied from a 45-40 deficit with 5:53 to go to take a 48-47 lead at the 4:30 mark.

However, Hobson hit a free throw to tie the game at 48-48 with 2:58 to go and then had a basket with 2:25 left to give Christian County (8-8) a 50-48 lead.

Carlie Hobson scored to make it 52-48 with 2:03 to go.

The Lady Tigers missed two free throws and a follow-up shot on their next possession. Genesis McGee made Caldwell pay as she made a layup and a free throw to extend the lead to 55-48 with 51 seconds left.

Hobson rebounded a missed free throw and put back a basket to seal the win.

Caldwell (8-11) led early 21-14 before the Lady Colonels went on an 18-4 run to close out the half and lead 32-25. Anaysia Bagwell’s off-balance three-pointer off the glass at the buzzer sent the Lady Colonels into the break with momentum.

Christian County led comfortably most of the second half before Caldwell made its late run.

Bagwell led the Lady Colonels with 20 points and Carliah Hobson added 19.

Audrey McCoy had 15 points to pace the Lady Tigers and Tink Clark added 13.

Christian County returns to action Monday night at home against Franklin-Simpson.
