Ky. Farm Bureau highlights state, national priorities for 2026

The Kentucky Farm Bureau is highlighting their state and national policy priorities as we head into 2026, and they’re focusing on infrastructure, fair trade, labor reforms and more.

According to a news release, these priorities are developed by KFB members and then approved by the Board of Directors, with the purpose of guiding the organizations’ advocacy efforts at both the state and federal level.

At the national level, KFB is focused on protecting crop insurance for farmers, expanding water resources and ensuring fair and open trade. They’ll be advocating for improvements to transportation infrastructure, regulatory reform and meaningful immigration and farm labor reforms to strengthen the H-2A—or the migrant worker—program.  Additional priorities include increased domestic fuel and fertilizer production, incentives for sustainable aviation fuel using domestic agricultural feedstocks, federal tax policies that protect family farms, health care reforms, and stronger wildlife depredation protections for producers.

At the state level, the KFB looks to emphasize investment in agriculture programs and services, such as soil and water conservation and a well-funded Kentucky Department of Agriculture. They also intend to advocate for protecting farmland and existing tax exemptions for production agriculture, sustain rural road funding, require decommissioning bonds for commercial solar projects and much more.

This is just one of many things the legislature will need to consider as they dive into the 2026 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
