U.S. 41 in Todd County to remain closed during the weekend

resulted in the continued closure of U.S. Highway 41 near Tress Shop Road.

Thirty-one train cars derailed around a mile away from Trenton and a couple of those cars were hauling molten sulfur that spilled and caught fire, which resulted in a temporary shelter-in-place order that has since been lifted.

Todd County Emergency Management Director Ash Groves shared that they were originally hoping to have U.S. 41 back open on Friday, but as the result of a primary landfill being closed through the weekend, the roadway will remain closed.

In a press release, Groves says debris removal, roadway cleaning and final safety inspections are dependent on landfill access. He says they are planning to reopen the roadway on Monday following Kentucky Transportation Cabinet inspections.

In the meantime, motorists are advised to continue using alternate routes.
