The Human Rights Commission of Hopkinsville-Christian County are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather, as the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March and celebration is set to take place on January 19.
This is a time-honored tradition in Hopkinsville, and Executive Director Raychel Farmer invites the community to participate, with the march set to begin at Freedom Elementary School at 9 a.m. that morning. It will make its way over to Hopkinsville Community College, where a program featuring local youth will take place in the auditorium building.
The school challenge hosted by Tom Bell State Farm is also set to return, with students advised to check in with their school representative at 8:40 a.m.
Farmer says there’s also still time for local students to submit artwork for the 2026 MLK Day Art Contest, with students across all grade levels are invited to participate.
The deadline to enter an art piece, which need to be on an 8.5” x 11” paper or canvas, is January 9. Submissions can be mailed to or dropped off at the HRC Office, located at 715 South Virginia Street.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners at the MLK Day Program. For more information on both the march and the art contest, contact Farmer at 270-887-4010.
