Shop Small Saturday is coming up this weekend and to spotlight small and local businesses, multiple organizations are collaborating to host the Holly Jolly Hop Community Shop.
The Holly Jolly Hop Community Shop is a collaboration among the Christian County Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Renaissance District and the Hopkinsville Small Business Commission.
City of Hopkinsville Administrative Assistant Diane Turner says the inaugural event is a chance to promote local businesses that will be hosting holiday open houses and offering promotional offers. Thirty-seven businesses are signed up to be a part of the event, and Turner says it’s exciting to have so many business owners participate in this first-time event.
Along with the open houses, there will be live music at the Alhambra Theatre, Pennyrile Marketplace and Corner Coffeehouse. Then, there will also be a caricature artist at J Schrecker Jewelry. Turner says the businesses span from downtown Hopkinsville to Fort Campbell Boulevard and even all the way to Oak Grove.
Turner says shopping at local businesses creates a positive impact that is not seen when folks shop at national retail companies. She says the revenue local businesses receive is also then spent locally and that money stays in the community.
The Holly Jolly Hop Community Shop is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and Turner says many of the businesses will have extended hours. A map of all of the businesses participating is available here.
