To ensure dining tables are full at Thanksgiving, the Hopkinsville Rotary Club is smoking 140 turkeys and helping provide other meal essentials for families who are a part of the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club.
In the past, Rotarian Cody Willis says he cooked Thanksgiving turkeys at home for the Boys and Girls Club, and last year, the operation moved to the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building where 32 turkeys were cooked. Then a couple of months ago, he says Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Terrence Davis asked him if they could cook 140 turkeys for families in need.
Willis and some of his fellow Rotarians arrived at the war memorial building at around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning to get the first batch of 52 turkeys seasoned and in the smoker.
Willis says Food Lion and Krusteaz Company also donated some dry and canned goods that will be packaged along with the turkeys and given to families.
From cooking five to 10 turkeys at a time at home to smoking a batch of 52, Willis says he loves supporting the Boys and Girls Club and helping ensure families don’t go without food during Thanksgiving.
Willis thanked his fellow Rotarians and Chris Blankenberger who helped get the turkeys cooked.
