Vanderbilt University Medical Center to acquire Tennova for $600 million

Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville is set to become a part of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s regional health network, after it was acquired for $600 million.

According to a news release, VUMC holds a 20% minority interest in the hospital, and the acquisition is intended to strengthen the hospital system’s ability to serve patients across the region and provide high-quality and cost-effective care in community settings.

In the acquisition, VUMC is reportedly committed to hiring all Tennova employees who are in good standing once the transfer is complete.

VUMC President and CEO Jeff Balser says expanding their services to Clarksville allows them to better serve the health care needs of those living in the rapidly growing area. Tennova CEO Drew Emery says the acquisition is a natural extension of their partnership with VUMC that has elevated healthcare in Clarksville, Montgomery County and the surrounding region for many years.

Before the acquisition, VUMC and Tennova had partnered to establish an OB-GYN hospitalist program, the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center radiation oncology services, and neonatal care in the hospital’s Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Along with Tennova, Vanderbilt’s regional health network now includes Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon, Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital in Coffee County, and Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital in Shelbyville.
