The Christian County High School Colonels football program has played its last game in history.
A news release from the Christian County Public Schools on Saturday morning said that the Colonels have opted out of the Class 6-A playoffs. Christian County Public Schools officials told WHOP Sports that the decision to opt out came before the KHSAA mandated deadline and neither the school nor the new school will be punished.
The Colonels, who finished the season at 1-9 and the fourth seed in Class 6-A, District 1, were scheduled to go to Bowling Green Nov. 7 to meet the No. 2-ranked South Warren Spartans (10-0).
The players were notified by coaches after the game Friday night of the decision to opt out of the playoffs.
Christian County joins Fort Knox, Berea, Ballard Memorial, Frankfort and Jackson County as teams who opted out of the 2025 football playoffs.
It’s been a tough season for the Colonels, who saw Head Coach Ethan Atchley resign mid-season. Assistant Coach Kelly Myers finished out the season. The Colonels also finished the season with fewer than 30 players on the active roster. Many of those players were freshmen.
The Colonels completed the regular season Friday night with a 54-7 loss to Paducah Tilghman.
Christian County and Hopkinsville High schools will consolidate for the Fall 2026 season.
