The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville has launched an emergency food campaign called “Feed Hope. Share Love.” to meet a surge in food-assistance requests.
According to a news release from the local Salvation Army, the requests are now three to five times higher than normal in recent weeks.
Lt. David Donegan, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville, says as grocery and utility prices continue to strain families, many neighbors are coming to the Salvation Army for the first time. He believes everyone is called to feed the hungry and serve those in need and trusts the community will come together once again.
The local Salvation Army provides meals through its soup kitchen and food pantry, serving families across Christian, Trigg, Todd, Caldwell and Lyon counties. Rising demand has left shelves nearly empty at the organization and they are asking for both financial and food donations to restock.
Donations can be made online at SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org or by mailing a check to PO Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42240. Non-perishable food donations like canned meats, vegetables, pasta and peanut butter can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 327 East 9th Street.
Lt. Brittney Donegan says, for more than a century, the Salvation Army has stood beside Hopkinsville in times of need. She believes together, everyone can share food and hope with every person who walks through their doors.
