Ahead of Kentucky’s next election, Jeffers Bend Environmental Center is partnering with a variety of local organizations to ensure people are informed and know the power of their vote.
Diane Croney-Turner and Charles Turner from Jeffers Bend appeared on WHOP to invite the community and share details about the upcoming Public Forum on the Vote. Croney-Turner says the forum will have a panel including Christian County Clerk Melinda Humphries, David Carroll from Community and Development Services and Nikki Chambers from the League of Women Voters in Kentucky.
Croney-Turner says the panelists will share how to register to vote; the differences between a primary and general election; the purpose of wards and magisterial districts and much more.
Croney-Turner often volunteers at local voting polls and says voter turnout has been low for the last few elections. By spreading more information concerning voting, she says she hopes it will help people understand how important their vote is.
The forum will include some refreshments and Croney-Turner encourages those interested in attending to bring their children, because it’s a learning opportunity for them too and one day it will be their turn to vote.
The voting forum is set for November 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pioneers Memorial Complex at 904 South Main Street and is free to attend.
This is the second forum Jeffers Bend is hosting in partnership with Focus 21st Century Minority Leadership and Croney-Turner says they have three more public forums planned continuing next year.
