The 101st Airborne Division has officially taken over command at the southern border, with a Change of Command Ceremony taking place at Fort Huachuca in Arizona.
According to a news release, the transfer of authority from the 10th Mountain Division to the 101st Airborne highlights deliberate transition of mission responsibility and reaffirms continued commitment to mission ownership, readiness, and collaboration in support of operations along the southern border.
Major General David Gardner says, “Today marks a pivotal moment for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as we embark on our next rendezvous with destiny, leading this important and essential mission. We assume this new role with clear eyed resolve and the motivation to continue building on what has come before us. We know the demands of this operation. We will rise to meet each challenge and we will execute and support this mission.”
The ceremony concluded with leaders from both divisions and representatives from U.S Customs and Border Protection reaffirming their shared commitment to safeguarding the nation’s southern border.
