UHA mourns as founding member as Nancy McGuire passes away

The University Heights Academy family is in mourning, as they lost one of the founding members last week, with Nancy Mason McGuire passing away at the age of 86.

McGuire called Hopkinsville since her birth in 1939, and was a graduate from Hopkinsville High School, where she would then graduate from Georgetown College.  A life-long educator, McGuire taught science at several local schools, including Christian County High School, with she became a founding member of University Heights Academy.

She served in numerous roles at UHA, including Assistant Headmaster, Chairwoman of the Science Department, and she established the science curriculum there for grade seven through 12.

McGuire is award winning, and the Board of Trustees established an annual award in her honor for an outstanding science student.

Funeral services for McGuire are set for Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 1 p.m., and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Challenge House in her memory.
