Big 2nd half sends UHA past Falcons, into District 8 finals

University Heights Academy found its finishing touch in the second half and moved into the Boys’ District 8 Soccer Tournament championship game by routing Fort Campbell 7-0 Tuesday night at the Stadium of Champions.

Despite peppering the Falcons’ goalkeeper with shots in the first half, the Blazers couldn’t get a shot past Jeremiah Brewer.

However, that changed in the opening 90 seconds of the second half when Hayden Hunt scored the first of his three goals on an assist from Cal Givens to put UHA ahead, 1-0.

Six minutes later Jayden Williamson followed up a missed shot to make it 2-0.

Hunt pushed the lead to 3-0 on an assist from Jack Cavanah at the 28:16 mark and Fort Campbell’s defense began to wilt.

Graham Conrad started a flurry of UHA goals at the 21:37 mark as he scored off a deflection to push the lead to 4-0. Less than a minute later, Hunt took a pass from Cadence Gibson and found the back of the net for a 5-0 lead.

The Blazers began making substitutions, but not before Gibson got into the scoring column on an assist from Conrad with 18:55 to play to make the score, 6-0.

UHA’s final goal came with 9:39 to play when Jack Conrad was pulled down in the box and scored on a penalty kick.

The Blazers improved to 15-5 on the season and will look for a little revenge on the Hopkinsville Tigers in Thursday night’s 6 p.m. title match at the Stadium of Champions. Hoptown upset UHA 1-0 in a match that started on Sept. 23, but had to be completed on Sept. 24 due to weather.

Fort Campbell saw its season end at 4-10.
