Police arrest Hopkinsville man for threatening to kill woman, fleeing

Hopkinsville Police arrested 56-year-old Walter Lewis the III of Hopkinsville on Saturday after he reportedly threatened to kill a female victim and fled from law enforcement.

Officers responded to the area of Liberty Street and East 5th Street in reference to a man, later identified as Lewis, who was threatening to kill himself and was armed with a knife. When Lewis saw officers, he reportedly started running away.

Lewis was commanded to let go of the knife and did so, before he was detained. Officers reported that Lewis was under the influence of a controlled substance and possessed a bag containing a glass pipe believed to be associated with the use of methamphetamine.

While talking with a witness, officers reportedly found that Lewis threatened to cut a woman with a knife, and when she tried to get away from him, he then threatened to kill her.

Lewis was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree terroristic threatening, menacing, third-degree fleeing or evading police, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.
