Governor Andy Beshear proclaimed October as Manufacturing Month in Kentucky and spotlighted the significance of the state’s manufacturing sector at Thursday’s Team Kentucky Update.
Beshear says manufacturing has been central to Kentucky’s growth and continues to drive the state’s economic momentum. He also says manufacturing industries in Kentucky are working to raise wages.
Kentucky is home to around 6,000 manufacturing facilities, and Beshear says the state ranks first in the nation for vehicle production and electric vehicle battery production.
Beshear says the manufacturing sector represents over 12% of the state’s workforce which surpasses the national average. He says the sector also contributes $47.5 billion to the state’s gross domestic product.
Beshear was joined by Frank Jemley, Caroline Scott and Shelley Goodwin from the Kentucky Association of Manufactures to present the proclamation.
