October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to support those in the community battling the disease, the Hopkinsville Fire Department kicked off its annual T-shirt fundraiser to benefit the Pink Ribbon Network.
The network is a local breast cancer support group that offers multiple avenues of assistance to those with the disease, such as financial support, companionship with others who have had the disease, encouragement and emotional support.
This is the 11th year the fundraiser has been hosted, and HFD Fire Marshal and Public Information Officer Payton Rogers says the fundraiser is a great way to support those in the community fighting cancer.
Last year, Rogers says the department donated a record amount of $6,000 to the network, and this year he hopes to top that amount.
The shirts on sale are dark gray, and the front includes the department’s shield in pink. Then the back has a ribbon made up of pink flames outlined by the saying, “Admiring the Survivors. Honoring the Taken. And Never, Ever Giving Up Hope. Supporting the Fighters.”
Rogers says he looks forward to seeing the fundraiser continue in the future and hopes the community’s support continues to grow, because their contribution makes a difference.
The shirts are on sale for $20 at the department’s headquarters located at 112 Phillip Meacham Way, Gracious Me and Bella Marie Boutique. Rogers says the shirts will be on sale for the whole month or as long as they last.
