The Christian County Colonels may be facing their toughest test of the high school football season Friday night as they face the South Pittsburg, Tenn., Pirates.
The Colonels are 1-4 and coming off a 40-34 win over Caverna last Friday night. While that trip seemed long, tonight’s journey to near Chattanooga, will be the Colonels’ longest of the season.
Interim Head Coach Kelly Myers said the long trip does have him concerned.
The Pirates also present the Colonels’ with a huge problem. They are ranked No. 2 in Tennessee’s Class 1-A poll. The only team ahead of them is Mckenzie, who defeated Christian County 42-12 last month in a game called at halftime due to the weather.
South Pittsburg has only given up 30 points all season. Offensively, the Pirates average nearly 44 points per game using a two-quarterback system.
Myers said the Pirates will be a challenge for the Colonels’ defense.
Myers has tinkered with the Colonels’ offense since taking over the program two weeks ago. The 40 points scored last week were the most Christian County has scored since beating Marshall County 47-10 in 2018.
Tonight’s game is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. local time and airtime is 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
