Jennie Stuart Health officially joins with Deaconess Health

As of Wednesday morning, Jennie Stuart Health has officially become a part of the Deaconess Health System, following a lengthy merger process.

This move comes after a due diligence period that began when a Letter of Intent between Jennie Stuart and Deaconess was signed in September of 2024, and paves the way for Jennie Stuart to transition to Epic Medical Records, an electronic health records system. According to a news release, this change reflects the opportunity to expand services, enhance resources and continue bringing exceptional care that Jennie Stuart has brought to the community for over a century.

There will be no immediate changes for patients or employees, including that Jennie Stuart Health will keep its name, while still gaining Deaconess’ resources and expertise to fuel modernization and innovation.

Jennie Stuart CEO Eric Lee says, “This is a proud and historic day for Jennie Stuart Health. By joining Deaconess, we are building on our legacy of excellent care, while opening the door to new opportunities for growth and expanded services. Our patients, employees and community can be confident that the compassionate, high-quality care they’ve always known will continue—stronger than ever.”

Deaconess CEO Shawn McCoy agreed, saying they are honored to welcome Jennie Stuart Health into the Deaconess family; “Our goal is to support the Hopkinsville region with even greater access to advanced services, additional providers and the same commitment to outstanding patient care that has long been the hallmark of Jennie Stuart.”

This merger agreement includes at a $95 million investment from Deaconess to transition Jennie Stuart to Epic Medical Records an electronic health records system. Deaconess will also contribute $5 million to the Jennie Stuart Health Foundation to access programs such as Tree of Life which provides financial assistance for local cancer patients, and Operation Love which supports Jennie Stuart employees going through unexpected financial troubles.

The Board of Trustees will have 12 members which includes three individuals appointed by Deaconess.
