It’s been two weeks of change for the Christian County Colonels’ football team.
Since losing 60-7 to Daviess County on homecoming night two weeks ago, the Colonels’ head coach Ethan Atchley resigned, and assistant coach Kelly Myers has been named interim head coach to fill out the season.
Myers said he was asked the Monday after the Daviess County game if he would be willing to step in if needed. He agreed and quickly began installing a revamped offense and defense.
Christian County is on the road for the first time this season as it takes on the Caverna Colonels at 7 p.m.
Caverna enters the game 1-3 on the season and is coming off a 50-12 loss last week to Jeffersontown. The purple-clad Colonels have brothers, Tyson and Kenyon Martin, at running back. The duo has combined to rush for more than 700 yards and seven touchdowns.
Myers said Caverna primarily runs a double-wing formation out of the Wing-T, which is an offense that uses misdirection to try and fool the defense. The interim coach said Christian County had spent a lot of time preparing to stop the Caverna offense tonight.
Meanwhile, Myers said Christian County is a matchup problem for Caverna, especially at wide receiver.
Christian County enters the game 0-4 on the season and has lost eight straight games dating back to last October.
Airtime for the game is at 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
